Periodic elevator maintenance: why it matters
By the Fredi Ashensori technical team · October 2026
Elevator maintenance is one of the key factors in the safety, longevity and correct operation of an installation.
An elevator contains a large number of mechanical, electrical and electronic components that work every day and wear over time. That is exactly why a periodic inspection helps identify wear or anomalies before they turn into more serious faults.
Fredi Ashensori has worked in the elevator industry since 1991. With ORONA technology, we provide elevator installation, maintenance, servicing, repair and modernization, with a focus on safety, quality, longevity and energy efficiency.
What does preventive elevator maintenance include?
A professional preventive maintenance program includes checking the main components and mechanisms, verifying their condition, testing operation and carrying out the necessary work before a small problem causes the elevator to stop.
The better preventive maintenance is carried out, the less need there is for emergency repairs and corrective work.
What is checked during a maintenance visit?
The elevator door system
The motor and drive system
The electronic panel and elevator controller
The inverter or frequency drive
The braking and safety systems
The sensors
The cabin and leveling system
The buttons and control panel
The alarm and communication system
Electrical and electronic components
Parts that wear during normal operation
How does maintenance extend an elevator’s life?
A regularly maintained elevator runs more reliably and keeps its performance for longer.
Maintenance also helps prevent chain damage, where one worn component causes problems in other parts of the system.
Elevator servicing should therefore not be seen only as a response to a breakdown, but as an ongoing process that prevents faults, improves safety and optimizes costs over the elevator’s whole life.
What is predictive elevator maintenance?
Technology is also changing how maintenance is done. New ORONA elevators can connect to an IoT (Internet of Things) platform and send operating data 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Sensors and data analysis help the technical team identify anomalies and plan preventive work. This is called predictive maintenance, and it is one of the most important developments in the elevator industry.
The goal is simple: fewer faults, fewer interruptions and higher elevator availability.
